Councilor Heather Hudson and her consort Mr. Peter Davis have chosen the RFL Benevolent Fund after work done by the charity in recent times.

The RFL Benevolent Fund assisted the families of Adam Watene and Leon Walker following their tragic deaths. Adam played for both Wakefield Wildcats and Castleford Tigers whilst Leon tragically died whilst playing for Wakefield Wildcats under-21s. The fund also assists Jimmy Gittins who was seriously injured playing for amateur Wakefield club Sharleston.

The Mayor and her consort are keen supporters of the game and the community values it represents. It is the first time a Mayor has chosen the RFL Benevolent Fund as its represented charity.

Over the next year the Mayor will be holding a number of charitable events to raise funds for both the Rugby League Benevolent Fund and her other charity, The Special Baby Care Unit.
