John Power married Julie Marie Butterworth on the 3rd October at Shrigley Hall in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
John 33 and Julie 28 have been together for 10 years and have been living in Grotton, Saddleworth for the last two and half years.  Fifteen years ago, John suffered a tragic spinal cord injury whilst playing for Oldham Rugby league ‘A’ team in 1995 at the age of 18.

Since then he has undergone a series of rehabilitation programmes and intense physiotherapy and his immense progress has been supported and tracked by many throughout Oldham.  For the past 12 months John has been specifically focussed and trained hard with the aid of callipers and crutches in order to stand next to his beautiful bride as they embraced their happy day.   John said “To be able to stand next to Julie is a dream come true.  She has been my rock throughout the past ten years and even though I cannot physically stand by her on a daily basis I wanted to make a special effort on our wedding day to show that I will be symbolically standing by her forever”.

Julie who is well known as a Primary school teacher at Springhead Infant and Nursery School and currently working for Oldham Authority as an Early Years Lead Practitioner said that she was initially nervous that John maybe pushing himself too much when he said that he wanted to stand for their wedding, she added “I met John when he was seated in a wheelchair and to me it makes no difference whether he stands or not, he is still the same person that I fell in love with”.  Despite this, John pushed himself to stand proudly next to his stunning bride for most of their photographs and added “I want to thank everyone that has ever supported me and want everyone to know of the progress that I have made and how I am now the happiest I have ever been with my beautiful wife!”

The newly married couple toured Australia and New Zealand for 3 weeks for their honeymoon.
