Craig Lingard a former Bulldog is running the 2011 London Marathon to raise monies for the RFL Benevolent fund.  Craig says “I started playing rugby at around 9 years old at Sharlston because that’s what everyone at Sharlston did. I eventually went on to play for Batley Bulldogs where I was awarded a testimonial for 10 years service at the club that saw me become the record all time try scorer with 142. I retired at the age of 30 and as I’ve been competing at sport all my life was looking for a new challenge. A marathon seemed the obvious one but also a hard one as I’ve never run over 6 miles at a time in my life before. I applied for the London Marathon and was accepted so I decided to try and put something back into the game that has given me so much and run for the benevolent fund. Whatever money I raise will be used to benefit the people that need it most throughout the rugby league community.”
