BBC Radio 5 Live’s George Riley has signed up to take part in this year’s Great North Run to raise money for the RFL Benevolent Fund.

Rugby League nut Riley, who presents the sport bulletins on the weekend breakfast show as well as other shows, will be part of a large 5Live team who will each be running on 20 September to raise money for different charities.

George Riley said: “The RFL Benevolent Fund supports those seriously injured playing the great game of Rugby League. I was touched when the Benevolent Fund supported the grieving families of Adam Watene and Leon Walker following their untimely deaths and believe the Great North Run is an excellent opportunity to raise a lot of money for a great cause.”

Steve Ball, RFL Benevolent Fund Manager, said: “It’s great news that someone with George’s profile is raising money for the RFL Benevolent Fund as he’ll be able to give the charity a number of plugs to millions of people on 5Live.”
